Man Stabs Wife to Death Before Children in Ogun, Commits Suicide

A middle-aged man has allegedly killed his wife in the presence of their children at River Valley Estate in Ogun State, before later taking his own life, in a tragic case that has shocked residents and reignited concerns over domestic violence.

The incident occurred on Thursday evening, when the suspect, identified as Ayoola Ayanwale, reportedly attacked his wife, Ayobami Ganiyatu Ayanwale, during a domestic dispute inside their home.
Witnesses said the woman was stabbed multiple times while their children were in the house.

Neighbours were alerted by distress screams, after one of the children reportedly ran out to seek help.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead due to the severity of her injuries.

After the attack, the suspect allegedly cleaned up blood stains in the apartment and fled the estate, sparking a search by security operatives.

Hours later, a man believed to be the suspect was found unconscious in an open field in another part of Ogun State. He was confirmed dead, with police suspecting suicide by poisoning, following the recovery of a bottle containing a suspected toxic substance at the scene.

The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the development, noting that an investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding both deaths.

The couple’s children have since been taken into the care of relatives, while residents of the estate described the incident as devastating and deeply troubling.

The tragedy has once again drawn attention to the growing cases of domestic violence in Nigeria, with rights groups urging victims to seek help early and authorities to strengthen intervention mechanisms.
